There is no need to book & collection is usually the day after your usual refuse and recycling collections.

License applications refused for Kebabland and Woody Supermarket

Both businesses applied for an extension to their opening hours:

Kebabland to stay open until 3:30am every morning.

Woody Supermarket to stay open (selling alcohol) until 2:30am Saturday & Sunday morning and 01:00am the rest of the week.

We submitted objections to each of these applications and are pleased to see the Licensing panel has refused to grant either of them.

Council Agrees Terms with The Funky Mojoe

On the advice of its lawyers the Council ended Court proceedings and reached a settlement with the Night Club. The Funky Mojoe can now stay open until 2:30am Friday night/Saturday morning and Saturday night/ Sunday morning.

We have, along with many residents, voiced our concern about this decision to the Council’s Licensing department.
The settlement between the Council and the Funky Mojoe includes conditions relating to noise and safety outside the Night Club.

These conditions, we have been told, will be vigorously enforced by the Council’s enforcement officers. We do hope so.

Bedford House Saved
This is the 4th victory for local residents as planning permission to build a block of eight flats on the site was refused by the Council (January 13th).

The voting was close with 5 Conservative & 2 Lib Dem councillors voting against the development and 5 Labour councillors voting for. There was one abstention.

The Napier Arms Pub has applied to Redbridge Council for an extension of its hours and activities; the application includes live music, recorded music, dancing and late night refreshments.

The extension would also see the pub close at 11:30pm four nights a week, 00:30am on Thursdays and at 2:30am on Saturday and Sunday mornings - this in a residential area! The Napier Arms will be transformed from a pub to a night club in all but name.

Chelmsford Road Traffic Problem

A dynamic meeting of local residents with Iain Duncan Smith MP, Chelmsford & Derby Road NHW, the Conservative Action Team and Lib Dem Cllr Hugh Cleaver discussed a number of ideas to move the long standing traffic problem forward.

Two local residents have been investigating the feasibility of using cameras in the road and Iain Duncan Smith has contacted Redbridge and Waltham Forest Councils about a new “No Right Hand Turn” Except for Access road sign for Woodford New Road - this sign would also apply to Fullers Road and Empress Avenue.

Freedom Pass is Safe ............

The Government is cutting millions of pounds worth of funding it gives to London Councils to provide the Freedom Pass, and is diverting the money to other parts of the country. However, Redbridge Council will continue to provide free travel benefits to its older and disabled residents.

South Woodford already has a surplus of flats and doesn't need any more! But there is yet another application to develop the site of the Victorian House in Bedford Road, South Woodford. The Council have previously refused permission for the demolition of the existing property and the erection of a 2 & 1/2 storey building containing nine flats. Polyclinic for South Woodford?

The controversial Polyclinic/Super Surgery scheme could come to Church End as South Woodford Health Centre is named as a prospective site. Polyclinics are said to provide up to 50% of out-patient treatment, and also provide X-rays and blood tests amongst other facilities.

The idea of having health care services near to home is very appealing, but we need to know how a locally based Polyclinic will impact on existing local hospital and GP services (not forgetting the important doctor/patient relationship) and the local infrastructure. Also, how will this be financed?

Downgrade Proposal for King George A&E

Redbridge Primary Care Trust (PCT) is once again consulting on plans to downgrade King George Hospital and close the only Accident and Emergency (A&E) department in the Borough. Emergency patients would have to go to either Whipps Cross, Leytonstone, or Queens Hospital in Romford. The Accident & Emergency department for both would need to be expanded. Redbridge Council has passed a resolution registering their objection, and will refer the issue to the Secretary of State for Health requesting an independent review of the plans.

There are a series of road-shows organized borough wide where the public can find out more about the plans. One will be held at Waitrose, High Road, South Woodford, on February 9th from 11am to 7pm.

Your local Conservative Action Team want to see local health services improved, not cut. Let us know your views about King George A&E and the proposed Polyclinic.

Latest on Funky Mojoes

Only a short time ago local residents were delighted with the news that Funky Mojoes appeal against a reduction in licensing hours was not going to be heard by magistrates.

However, a High Court Judge has now granted Funky Mojoes lawyers permission for a judicial review of that ruling. This means that for the foreseeable future Funky Mojoes will continue to trade until 2am on weekends. This goes against the wishes of our local community and our council.

Dirty Park needs Cleaning Up!

Churchfield's Park needs Cleaning Up!

Churchfileds park is one of the areas primary local amenities and is used by many families and children from the area. We have become aware of the awful problem of used condoms being strewn around the childrens play area in the park.

This is preventing local resident's proper use of the park and is potentially an extremely serious health and safety concern.

The park needs more regular monitoring by community police to discourage the park being used in this way and needs to be more regularly cleaned by the local council. There are already too few suitable amenity spaces in the area where young children can play.

We are looking into this problem and will be raising the issue with the cabinet and the local conservative council. We want the very best for our community and will keep you updated ........

Symbol of Redbridge 2012 Olympic Games

Church Ends famous Statue of Sir Winston Churchill has been chosen as the symbol of Redbridge at the 2012 Olympic Games ......

the statute was voted for by borough residents and will be featured on a set of commemorative pin badges which are being produced for the 2012 games.
